I go to St. Pauls sometimes with my Jewish husband. I know who you are, but doubt you remember meeting me. I was really interested in Seymour's story-but very disappointed when I tried this past Sunday to discuss it with him. He said very little. My husband has no interest in Christianity, or believing in Jesus. as he does not want to give up the Jewish traditions. He takes communion, but more because "everyone else does." Anyway I am happy about Seymour and hope my husband will someday come around!!karolinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05720177897844804881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7551733074902729860.post-11409387655701525992010-06-06T16:30:52.193-07:002010-06-06T16:30:52.193-07:00I'm wondering if God is doing something among ...I'm wondering if God is doing something among elderly children of Israel. I got to share with my secular Jewish psychiatrist this week what a difference me realizing Jesus didn't have to die for me but chose to out of love made in my life. The change was so obvious to him he eliminated one of my medications and reduced another. God uses the weak, young, broken, to share the good news. And when our words are backed up by change in our lives or action, I pray the message is louder and clearer to a watching hungry world. Yeah for Chase and JB! And I love the fact that God is ...I LOVE the Shack! And I love the fact that God is so good to not just save us, but totally transform us through relationship. My favorite part of the Shack is the chapter called "Verbs and Other Freedoms." Here it talks about living not out of expectations (in the negative burden-like sense) but out of expectancy. I have been on a journey this past year to lay down my expectations of what I want from God and what I want him to do for me, and to learn to live in expectancy based on WHO he is. He is good, and he loves me - so whatever he does or gives, even if it doesn't meet my expectations, will be better by far! I love this. My hope is not in the things I want, my hope is in HIM and WHO he is, and the fact that he loves me and is working all things together for my good. Even when the circumstances tempt me to despair... Isn't he good?Meredithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02245023889992541869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7551733074902729860.post-69388896904352583102008-11-26T08:35:00.000-08:002008-11-26T08:35:00.000-08:00Right on!Right on!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17687745654284522217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7551733074902729860.post-40197270959686268822008-11-14T09:15:00.000-08:002008-11-14T09:15:00.000-08:00Thanks for sharing (again). I know too many people who've been where you and Lisa are and too many who care for seriously ill, but still living children and too many who were seriously injured as children. Occasionally my counselor and I will brush up against the question of why God didn't just keep the things that happened to me from happening. You're sharing encouraged me to pray, "Lord, if this is the time, make me willing and strong enough to face that question head on and love You more because of the answer." This is however not a platform to debate theology, it is a place where followers of Jesus can share joy and trials in chasing after the King of Glory. That is not say that the my theology is a mile wide and an inch deep, having been trained in Bibilical Theology at Trinity Episcopal School for ministry and spending years living it out,m I do not take the Word of God lightly.
In Christ,
BryanRev. This was also before I knew Bryan, who can help point out God's work in many different ways.

In reading Bryan's blog I am reminded of 3 additional Toyota principles that apply to getting to the heart of the matter. The three principles are: 1) Go See 2) Ask why 3) Repsect.

1) Go See. In getting to the heart of the matter, it is often not enough to just hear or read about a problem, it makes a significant difference to go see the actual issue and talk with the people going through it. By doing this you have a much greater understanding of what is really happening and how you can help.

2) Ask Why. Often times when we try to help solve problems we feel that if we solve the first or most apparent issue, the problem will go away, never to return. The point of asking why is to really get to the heart of the matter by not settling at the first answer. The problems on the surface are often not what is causing the a large amount of the problem.

3) Respect. Throughout this process of problem solving you must respect the people who deal with these problems day in and day out. They are humans, with minds to think and probably have a greater understanding of what is really causing it. You must take the time to listen and respect their background and experiences before trying to impose a solution on them. A truely effective solution will be a blend of knowledge that will solve the heart of the matter.

Enough about the Toyota principles - how do these play into our Christian lives? If we rush to help someone without knowing what they are going through, taking the time to see how we can really help, and understanding the heart of their need - it might not be as much of a help as we had planned.

I would say that following these principles is what also makes ministries effective. I strongly belive think what makes Bryan's ministry effective is that he takes the time to see the needs around him, understand where people are coming from, and help provide for their needs and as well as showing them Gods solution for their restless hearts.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7551733074902729860.post-38184164789914865262008-08-15T11:55:00.000-07:002008-08-15T11:55:00.000-07:00hey...this is me, bryan. i had no idea that folks ...hey...this is me, bryan. i had no idea that folks had to be google-types to post comments..so i've changed that! i'm a huge fan of feedback....Rev.
